Pithole Creek enters the Allegheny at the
river village of Oleopolis. It flows north and south. The stream
bears the same name as the ghost town Pithole. An oil boom town
during the 1860's.
Pithole Creek can be accessed from sr1005 the
Oleopolis road, sr1004 the Eagle Rock road, and sr1006 which
leads to Pithole City. All these roads have intersections on
route 227 between Rouseville an Pleasantville. Rouseville is on
route 8 north of Oil City about 3 miles.
Access to Pithole is possible from Plank road
which connects sr1006 at Pithole City with the West Pithole road.
Plank parallels to the stream for a few miles. You may want to
visit Pithole Museum while you are here.
Pithole is usually stock twice a year, once
before season and once in season. Bait fishing is the usual
method on Pithole but there are occasional hatches of Sulfurs and
Cahills.
