CATS
PHONE & BILLING (ALLTEL) QUESTIONS
1
Q. Must the students provide their
own phone?
A. Yes.
However, ALLTEL will have phones available for sale at the CATS Center.
Updated equipment will allow
for two phones in each room.
2 Q. How do I get my
telephone turned on?
A. All telephone lines are automatically active for
local calls only.
3 Q. There are two (or more) telephone numbers in my
room. I don't know which telephone extension is mine. How do I find
out?
A. Your extension number is printed on the residence
hall assignment sheet that was mailed out to you earlier. If you don't
have the sheet you can call either the CATS Center at ext. 2452 or the
switchboard operator at "0" for that information.
4 Q. How do I make a long distance
call?
A. Full instruction sheets will be in each residence hall
room. All phone lines have access
to local calling but are blocked from dial around.
Students must use ALLTEL Long Distance (ALD) or prepaid calling card, or
call collect (dial 0). When calling
long distance using ALD, the student first dials the long distance number and
will be prompted with a tone that will require input of their 8-digit Student
Access Number (SAN). Upon entering
the SAN, their call will be completed.
5 Q. I plugged in my telephone and the line is
dead. What do I do?
A. Find a working telephone and call the switchboard
operator at "0" to report the problem.
6 Q. How do I get my personal 8-digit authorization code to make ALLTEL long
distance calls?
A. You are issued a 8 digit code when you sign up
for ALLTEL's long distance service, by calling 1-800-255-8357.
7 Q. I already signed up for ALLTEL long distance,
but I forgot my PIN number. How can I find out what it is?
A. Photo ID must be taken to CATS Center, give them
your account number and they can give you your PIN.
8 Q. I have a calling card from home. Why
should I sign up for ALLTEL long distance?
A. Your calling card from home can be very
expensive, around $.25 per minute. It would be cheaper to use one of the
ALLTEL long distance plans.
9 Q. I just buy prepaid calling cards at the local
convenience store. Why should I sign up for ALLTEL long distance?
A. While some calling cards advertise really low per
minute rates, most of them have hidden fees, such as a $.40 cent charge just to
make the phone call, even if you just get an answering machine. When you
factor in these charges you can see that the per minute reate is really much
higher than the advertised rate.
There is also a convenience factor in that you won't run out of time in the middle of a phone call and you won't have to run down to buy a new card before you make calls. Even if you use prepaid cards, you may want to sign up for an ALLTEL plan without a flat rate charge as a backup. If you never make a call using the ALLTEL plan, you won't get billed at all.
10 Q. What
information do I need to provide the operator when calling for service or
billing concerns?
A.
When calling with a service issue you only need to provide the service
technician with your phone number. When
calling with a billing concern, the customer service representative will need to
know the account number provided to you with your access code.
NOTE:
This account number is different than the phone number.
It will be located on your bill for future reference.
11 Q. Can a student make a payment at the Seneca CSOnline office
or any other ALLTEL regional billing location?
A.
No. All payments must be mailed to the Kittanning call center (ALLTEL
Communications, 201 N Jefferson Street, Kittanning PA 16402) or you can make
payments in person at the CATS Center
(Clarion University CATS Center, Wilkinson Hall, Route 322, Clarion PA 16214.
Note: After the initial signup, when you receive your bill it will have
an envelope included to send payment to Little Rock, Arkansas.
12
Q. How will I be billed by ALLTEL?
A. You will receive a monthly ALLTEL bill itemizing your services.
If you have chosen wireless services, they will appear on a separate
bill. Payments can be sent in the
pre-addressed envelope included with your bill or in person at the CATS Center.
13 Q. Can both roommates write a check
for their share of the amount due?
A. No.
Only one check should be sent with billing party name.
That person is responsible for working out reimbursement from the
roommate.
