My Toggenburgs run basically from two lines. The first is my Bambi
line and the second is my Gabby/Shelly line. Both lines were started
with does originally purchased back in 1990 and 1991. Since then both
lines have given me many wonderful animals with good milk records and
solid structural conformation. I have been happy with both lines and
am pleased to retain so many daughters from both lines.
Bambi was an amazing doe. I purchased her as a doeling and since
it was the start of my Toggenburg herd, Marie "Tyke" Cribbs,
the breeder, took great pains in helping me select a doe that would
provide a good foundation for my breeding program. I am happy to say
that I was pleased with this selection. Bambi's profile can be found
in the Toggenburg Reference Doe section. From birth she was always a
strong large doe and this strength has carried throughout her progeny.
In addition to strong physical characteristics, she had the strong personality
which made her stand out in the herd. Her daughters continue to enhance
my Toggenburg herd and her one son I kept as breeding stock rewarded
me with a 90 LA score at the age of six years. I still have in the herd
one Bambi's last two daughters - Barbara Ann. Her profile can be found
in the Senior Doe section. When I look at Barbara Ann, I almost feel
like Bambi is still with the herd. In fact, I often catch myself calling
her Bambi. She, like her dam, is a strong powerful doe. An older daughter
of Bambi's, Babette, is also still with me. In addition a Bambi granddaughter,
Bellina, is listed in the Senior Doe section. Bellina has the honor
of being my first doe to achieve breed leader status - she was a Toggenburg
Breed Leader in Butterfat, placing 8th.
My second line started with a purchase of a dam and daughter from
Charlene Hoettler. Gabby since has passed away, but not before she graced
her pedigree with a 3600+ milk record . Her daughter, Shelly, was with
me until last year where she passed away at the age of 14 years. Shelly's
mark has been made on the Seven Maples herd many times over the years.
Listed in the Senior Doe section can be found her daugther, Sheba, as
well as granddaughter Shelby. Another granddaughter, Sonata, freshened
last year and is also listed in the Senior Doe section. Consistent throughout
the Shelly progeny are long, level toplines and awesome rumps, strong
Toggenburg heads, solid feet and legs, and very capacious, well-attached,
well-balanced mammary systems. I have been very satisfied with the Gabby/Shelly
line and am glad that Shelly's daughters and granddaughters will continue
to carry on this awesome doe's genetics.
