My Alpines all started with two does back in 1989 and 1990. Although both Sanstorm based pedigee wise, both have contributed differently to my herd, making my Alpines well rounded in production and style.

I bought Naomi as a dry yearling and was told that this doe would be an excellent foundation doe. Naomi's breeder, Marie "Tyke" Cribbs, told me that she would not be a good show doe but that she would provide me with an excellent base for a sound breeding program for my Alpines. Tyke's words to me could not have been more true. I bought Naomi in 1990 and she died here in my herd in 2001. Over the years she has given me so many wonderful daughters and so many fond memories. She was the herd matriarch and was a gentle but firm leader. I miss her but am glad that I continue to see her wonderful qualities and endearing personality live on in her progeny.

The Naomi line is a practical, persistent milking line, with sound structural qualities. Easy kidding seems to be inherent in this line, with a trend for more doe kids born than buck kids. Having more doe kids has been nice as it has allowed me to keep her genes very much alive in my herd and still sell a number of her kids. One of Naomi's eldest daughters, Wynonna, was my first "homebred" champion. LA scores in this line have consistently improved over the years and in addition to the higher 80's and numerous 89's, I am happy to say that this past year a granddaughter of Naomi's has earned an LA score of 90. Although the majority of her offspring have been in the dark Chamoisee patterns - especially the rich dark reddish-blacks and browns, in the past several years a number of Sundgaus have been born as my last 2 to 3 herd sires for the Alpines have been Sundgaus.

I have featured Naomi and her daughter Wynonna in my Alpine Reference Doe section. Progeny from my Naomi line still retained in my herd can be found in the Alpine Senior Doe section.

Marie, the matriarch of my second Alpine line, added style to my Alpine herd with flashy color patterns - vivid Cou Blancs and Cou Clairs, broken with splashes of bright white or vibrant blacks. Her kids always had the classy stylish dished faces. Unfortunately, I had more bucks from this line than does and it has been harder to maintain her line in my herd as well as I did the Naomi line. I am excited to have Madeline, who will be a two-year-old first-freshener from this line. She is listed in the Alpine First Freshener section. Her dam, Marina, can be found in the Alpine Reference Doe section. I'm hoping for does from her so that I can keep this line going.
