Naomi was an excellent foundation doe. She was an
even-tempered, dependable doe who over the years had been reliable in
the milk parlor as well as an easy kidder. In the position of herd matriarch,
I counted on this Chamoise doe's easy deliveries and consistent milk
production. She had all that led to longevity and production with her
strong, deep chest, good depth of barrel, a long lean neck, nice angularity,
and openness of ribbing with pliable skin. Over the years, not only
had she filled that milkpail willingly, but had provided me with progeny
that carry on her legacy of consistent milk production and ease with
kidding. As a bonus, her eldest daughter, Wynonna, finished her championship
in 1998.

A Naomi daughter, this medium Chamoisee has the honor of being the first Permanent Champion in my herd. To make this even more exciting, she was "homebred" as well. In addition to this status, Wynonna had consistency in the milkpail - not just lactation to lactation, but also very level within each lactation. As icing on the cake, her butterfat level was 4.4%. Excelling in dairyness, Wynonna had open ribbing, good pliability of skin and sharp angulation. Her level topline, nicely angled rump and smooth blending from her deep barrel into her withers and long lean neck were very pleasant to the eye. From a walk she came to rest into a natural set, with rear legs settling comfortably around her capacious mammary system. Her udder was well balanced and showed smooth fore udder extension. As is consistent in this doe line, Wynonna was an easy kidder. The positive impact of Wynonna on the herd is seen not only through her contributions as an individual, but through the consistency of her progeny.

When she freshened her mammary system was very nicely shaped, high rear udder, smooth foreudder and well-balanced. I was sorry not to have got a picture of her in milk before she was sold. Virgilia is a Wynonna daughter (see above in this section). She is a dark Chamoisee with a black face. As a yearling she was tall and long - taller than other Wynonna does that have been born. She has an excellent topline and very correctly angled rump with an amazing width of 7.5 inches. She is an Earl daughter who LAed with 90 and 91 scores as a 6 year old and a 7 year old. Her mammary as a first-freshener was capacious, nicely attached and high and wide in the rear. |

Nolita is a Chamoise. I like Nolita's height; at 28.5 inches, she carries herself well and looks smooth on the move and comes to rest in a nice natural set. She is strong in dairyness which has been consistent in Naomi and her descendents. Long and lean, Nolita has a tendency to look narrow, but is starting to mature and fill out nicely. |

SEVEN-MAPLES ARIS MARINA 5*M

Marina is a very flashy broken Cou Clair. She is black, brown and white, with vividly marked colors, and has striking white markings on her side, nose and legs. She is a very hard-working doe, filling that milkpail willingly and consistently. Peaking in her first lactation with a 10.8 lbs., she peaked the following year at 15.5 lbs., with 7 of her 10 monthly tests showing better than 9 lbs. I was very pleased with her finished 3,267 lbs. of milk. Linear-wise, she scored 87 both as a 2 and 3 year old. From her very strong Alpine head down to that capacious udder, Marina displays many strengths - level across the top with a nice wide and level rump, excellent rear leg set, uphill and strong in dairy character, with a long lean neck, excellent ribbing and pliability of skin. She has very strong medial support in her udder, with a high rear udder, and nice rear udder arch. From the side, she shows good udder balance. I liked the strength in this doe and enjoyed her contributions to my herd. Her daughter, Mira, is listed in the Alpine Senior Doe section.

SEVEN-MAPLES CS CAPELLA

Another Cosmic Shadow daughter, I chose the name Capella for this doe. Capella is the 6th brightest star in the sky as seen from Earth and the name translates to "She-Goat". This goat truly lives up to her name and brightness. Capella is a striking doe to look at - a vivid broken Sundgau, with a bright white face and a white streak down one side. This doe shows strength throughout, with ideal rump width. |
